Overview

Job Description

Homemakers create a warm, supportive environment for residents by combining housekeeping with personal care and social connection.

On any given day, you might clean and tidy a resident’s room, assist with light personal care tasks, help with a meal, or simply spend time talking with a resident who needs company.

talking with a resident who needs company.  This role is ideal for someone who wants more than a cleaning role but isn’t quite ready for a full caregiving position. You work closely with residents every day, which means you notice changes, build trust, and become a familiar and comforting presence in their lives. It’s a role that bridges the practical and the personal in a way few others do.

Education Requirements

No formal education is required for this role. Some employers may prefer a high school diploma or equivalent. All necessary skills are learned through on-the-job training.

A Day In This Role

A homemaker’s day might start with tidying a few resident rooms, then shift to helping a resident get ready for breakfast. Later you might sit with a resident during a quiet moment, assist with light housekeeping in common areas, and check in with nursing staff about a resident whose room needs extra attention. The variety is part of what makes this role rewarding — no two days look exactly the same.

Advancement Opportunities: Where this role can take you

Cross-Pathway Note: Homemakers who develop strong relationships with residents often find a natural next step in caregiving. The personal care experience you build in this role is directly applicable to a Nursing Assistant position — and many employers will support your CNA training.
