Job Description
Admissions coordinators are often the first real human connection a family has with an aging services community — and that first impression matters. This role guides prospective residents and their families from initial inquiry through the admission process, helping them understand care options, complete necessary paperwork, and feel welcomed and supported every step of the way.
Day to day, responsibilities include conducting tours, gathering clinical and financial information, coordinating with nursing and care teams on incoming residents, and maintaining accurate admission records. Some employers prefer candidates with a nursing background, which helps with clinical assessments during the admissions process.
The role is well-suited to someone who is warm and organized, communicates clearly under pressure, and genuinely cares about helping people navigate a complicated moment with grace.
Education Requirements
Requirements vary by employer. Some organizations prefer candidates with nursing licensure — particularly an LPN or RN — for clinical assessment responsibilities. Others use seasoned Social Workers and prioritize strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills over clinical credentials. If you’re coming from a customer service, hospitality, or administrative background and are drawn to meaningful work with older adults and families, this role may be a strong fit.
A Day In This Role
A day might begin with a family tour for a prospective resident, followed by a pre-admission assessment with incoming clinical staff. Afternoons might include finalizing paperwork for a resident arriving the next morning, coordinating room setup with housekeeping, and a call with a family navigating payer options. It’s a role where no two days look exactly the same.
