Overview

Job Description

Environmental Services Supervisors lead and oversee the day-to-day work of housekeeping and laundry staff in a senior living community. Responsibilities include scheduling and assigning staff, conducting quality inspections, training new team members, managing supply inventory, and ensuring compliance with infection control and safety standards.

This role sits between front-line housekeeping work and Facilities Director-level leadership — making it the natural next step for experienced housekeepers or laundry aides who are ready to lead a team.

You are the person the housekeeping staff comes to with questions, and the person leadership depends on to keep standards high. Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to communicate clearly are the most important qualities for this role.

Education Requirements

No formal degree is required. Most employers look for prior experience in housekeeping or environmental services, along with demonstrated reliability and leadership ability. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred by many employers.

A Day In This Role

A typical day might start with a brief team meeting to review assignments and flag any priority areas — a move-in that needs a deep clean, a resident room that requires extra attention. Throughout the day you conduct spot inspections, support staff who need guidance, handle supply orders, and respond to any urgent cleaning needs. You might end the day reviewing the next day’s schedule and checking in with nursing leadership about upcoming changes. It’s a role that keeps you moving and keeps the community running smoothly.

Advancement Opportunities: Where this role can take you

Cross-Pathway Note: Environmental Services Supervisors who develop strong operational and leadership skills sometimes move into broader administrative roles in aging services. These opportunities span different care settings — assisted living, nursing homes, and multi-site organizations.
