Job Description
Clinical Nurse Supervisors direct the day-to-day nursing operations of a care unit or community — ensuring that care plans are followed, resident needs are being met, and the nursing team has the support and direction they need to do their best work.
Responsibilities include supervising and evaluating nursing staff, reviewing and adjusting care plans, responding to clinical emergencies and complex resident situations, training and orienting new nursing team members, and serving as the primary clinical escalation point between staff nurses and the Director of Nursing.
This role is best suited for an experienced RN who leads naturally, communicates clearly under pressure, and is committed to both clinical excellence and the ongoing development of the nursing team.
Education Requirements
Current RN licensure through the Minnesota Board of Nursing is required. Substantial nursing experience — typically several years in long-term care or a related clinical setting — is expected. Prior charge nurse or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. A BSN or higher is preferred by many employers.

A Day In This Role
A day typically begins with reviewing the clinical status of all residents and the shift report from the outgoing supervisor. From there, a Clinical Nurse Supervisor might respond to an acute resident situation, conduct a spot audit of documentation, coach an LPN on a clinical concern, attend a care conference, and check in with CNAs to ensure rounds are running on time. The role is active, supervisory, and clinical.
