Overview

Job Description

In aging services, human resources isn’t just an administrative function — it’s a cornerstone of care quality. The communities that staff well, hire thoughtfully, and support their employees consistently deliver better outcomes for residents. HR professionals make that possible.

Roles in this area span the full employee lifecycle: recruiting and hiring, onboarding and orientation, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning. In an environment where staffing challenges are real and ongoing, HR professionals in aging services play an outsized role in organizational success.

Whether you’re a recruiter who excels at finding the right people, an HR generalist who keeps operations running smoothly, or an HR manager shaping workplace culture — your skills are in demand and your impact is direct.

Education Requirements

Requirements vary by role and employer. Entry-level HR positions may be accessible to candidates with a high school diploma and relevant experience. Many employers prefer or require a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field for generalist and management roles. HR certifications — such as the SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR — are valued and can strengthen a candidate’s profile at any level.

A Day In This Role

A day might include posting open positions and reviewing applications in the morning, conducting a new employee orientation at midday, and working through an employee relations matter and preparing for an upcoming benefits open enrollment in the afternoon. In smaller communities, one HR professional may cover all of these areas. In larger organizations, roles are more specialized.

Advancement Opportunities: Where this role can take you

Cross-Pathway Note: HR professionals in aging services sometimes move into broader operational leadership as they build expertise in the field. The skills developed in workforce management, culture building, and employee relations translate well into community-level leadership.
